This charming original oil on board painting by Swedish artist Carl Johan Allan Åsberg (1907–1952) depicts the famous Café des Deux Magots in Paris, one of the city's most celebrated literary and artistic landmarks. Executed with confident impressionistic brushwork, the composition captures the warmth and atmosphere of a sunlit Parisian square, with historic architecture, café awnings, and strolling figures rendered in a lively palette of ochres, creams, blues, and earthy greens.

The painting beautifully combines architectural detail with an expressive painterly approach, evoking the romance and cultural richness of early twentieth-century Paris. The iconic café, long associated with artists, writers, and intellectuals, serves as the focal point of the composition, making this work especially appealing to collectors of European cityscapes and French-themed interiors.

Presented in an elegant dark wood frame with a gilt liner.

👨🎨 About the Artist:
Carl Johan Allan Åsberg was a Swedish painter born in Gravarne, Bohuslän, Sweden, in 1907, and died in Malmö in 1952. According to the period biographical label attached to the reverse, Åsberg studied in Germany as well as in North and South America. He became known for painting winter landscapes, marine subjects, harbor scenes, and city views, distinguished by a strong sense of color and atmosphere.

A second period note attached to the reverse praises Åsberg's paintings of harbor scenes with sailing vessels, views of Stockholm, and winter landscapes. The text specifically highlights his broad painting technique, keen eye for picturesque subjects, and accomplished use of color. These original gallery and exhibition labels add valuable provenance and historical context to the work.

The reverse of the board is inscribed "Le metier des artistes – Terrasse des Deux Magots," directly referencing the famous Paris café depicted on the front.
