John Ambrose (1931–2010) was a British painter celebrated for his impressionistic marine and coastal scenes, as well as landscapes. Born in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, he pursued his art education in the West Midlands, drawing significant influence from D.A. Chatterton of Plymouth. His frequent visits to Cornwall led him to settle in St. Ives, where he lived and worked for over 30 years. Ambrose was elected a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) in 1990, having exhibited with them since 1985, and also showcased his work at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) in 1989. His artworks have been featured in exhibitions across the UK and Germany, earning him a strong reputation among collectors.
